Watch the whole thing, OK?

I'm not a huge JT fan but I really like this song no matter who sings it. This girl should be very famous soon.

Update 5/31/07: Rumor has it that this video was created because Esmee has signed to a new record label.

Saddest Thing I Saw All Weekend

(Besides Memorial Day coverage, that is...)

Little dumpy unattractive man screaming at his little mousy also dumpy wife (wearing knee-high black socks with a dress) in front of their tiny horrified-looking little kids in the WalMart parking lot. I felt bad for the kids and wife, and also felt like kicking the "dad" in the 'nads as I walked by.

MLS Players Have Moms, Too

Some MLS players talk about their "soccer moms":

Herculez Gomez, Colorado Rapids forward: "I was well known in high school, so opponents were very aggressive with me. My mom was very vocal after every foul and would yell at the opposing players. She's the main reason I'm able to block out opposing fans now."

Steve Ralston, New England Revolution midfielder: "I didn't want to go to practice one time when I was about 13 because I wanted to stay and play with my friends around the house. My mom said, 'Play out the season and then see how you feel.' I used the same line with my daughter the other day."

Chad Barrett, Fire forward: "Every game since I was 7 or 8, no matter what the stakes were, I could always hear my mom yell, 'Go Chaddy' at the top of her lungs. I hate being called Chaddy. I told her to stop it, but she would say, 'Sorry, it just comes out.' She's coming for the game June 9 and I'm going to put her in the nose-bleed seats."

Jeff Cunningham, Real Salt Lake forward: "My mom is very blunt. She told my girlfriend in college she needs to cover herself up and wear more clothes—and that was her first time meeting her. That's my mom. She doesn't know what she's saying sometimes, but she has good intentions. … I appreciate every moment I spend with my mom."

Oh, yeah. And...

It's my 20th wedding anniversary today. Other people seem to think this is impressive. However, my husband is at work tonight. I guess he forgot to take the day off or something. (Plus it's Mother's Day, but I'm not his mom, so...) Whatever. I guess the fact that this really doesn't bother me a lot is one of the reasons we still happen to be married.

Happy Mom's Day

Happy Mother's Day to Paula the Surf Mom (her first one!), Baseball Mom, White Trash Mom, Jacy & Tearfree at RTK, and all the other moms out there with and without blogs.

Kasey is Homeless

From US Today:

U.S. goalkeeper Kasey Keller will leave the German club Borussia Moenchengladbach at the end of the season.

The club said Wednesday it didn't expect the 37-year-old goalkeeper — after a long career in Europe — to want to stay with the relegated club next season in Germany's second division.

"That Keller offered to stay with the Borussia is a surprise," manager Christian Ziege said. "We had to assume that he wasn't available if we were demoted."

But Ziege said Moenchengladbach will stick with plans for a generation change and play 25-year-old Christofer Heimeroth next season.

Keller joined the German club in 2005 and often is ranked among the Bundesliga's top goalkeepers. His previous European stops include Tottenham in the Premier League and Rayo Vallecano in Spain.

Soccer and Mr. T?

Soccer Dad over at On the Pitch posted this commercial which I actually hadn't seen, probably because I couldn't tell you the last time I watched any TV other than Fox Soccer Channel and some Red Sox games. And CSI Miami repeats that Mr. LDSM watches in bed late at night.

Funny stuff!

The Rest of the Story

So...here's why my son woke me up at 2am Saturday morning:

http://www.heraldsun.com/tools/printfriendly.cfm?StoryID=845601

What the story doesn't mention is that the wreck was discovered by four young men driving home from a party. The four young men being my son and his friends. They saw the car in the woods on fire and went down to see if they could find any survivors. The car began to "explode" a bit so they ran back to the street and called 911, and waited for the police and EMS to come. They saw the EMS workers drag the driver from the woods but didn't know if he was alive or dead. One of the boys grew frightened and initially did not want to stay and wait for help to arrive. Ironically, there is now a rumor going around at the high schools that he is the one who pulled the driver from the wreck, which is not true at all.

What the story also doesn't mention is that the driver had just gotten the car he wrecked as an early graduation gift, and that he was supposed to attend prom on Saturday night. I heard his date did not even know about the wreck until 6pm Saturday, after she was already dressed and ready to go (she ended up going with friends).

Needless to say, my son gave me quite a "heart attack" by waking me up with "if the police call..." and "there's been a car crash," and while I obviously feel very fortunate that he wasn't in the crash, I can't imagine what the poor driver's parents are going through right now. I hope he makes it.

8 Words You Don't Want to Hear at 2 AM.

"Mom. You awake? So...if the police call..."

OK. Well I'm certainly (half) awake now.

Whole story to follow...let's just say no one I know is in jail right now (phew).

Ben Folds Covers "Such Great Heights"

One of these days I'll actually get to see him live, I hope. The last two times he's been in the area, it's been sold out before I found out about it. (He's a Chapel Hill native.)
Enjoy.

This is an Ad. I'm Telling You Now.

ReviewMe has asked me to write a review on a web store named Active Sandals (www.active-sandals.com). So--here goes!

Active Sandals sells the kind of shoes I love to wear, when I HAVE to be wearing shoes, that is. Which is mainly only at work or when I have to go to the store (No shirt, no shoes, you know the drill.) They specialize in Reef and Rainbow brands, but carry many other kinds of sandals, as well as a small selection of trendy jeans, shorts and t-shirts. My one complaint is that they don't have a very wide selection of Birks, which are my absolute favorite shoe ever.

While their regular prices aren't the lowest I've seen, they have free shipping on orders over $75, and they don't add sales tax. They are a 5-Star rated Yahoo merchant, so you can order from them and feel secure. (I'd feel safe giving them my credit card info.) They also have a 100% guarantee on unworn items. Right now they're having a clearance with some pretty good prices, so if you're looking for a pair of nice sandals for the upcoming summer's festivities, be sure to check out Active Sandals.

PS: Be sure to look at the Fanning sandals, pictured above. They actually have a bottle opener hidden in the sole, in case of an "emergency." Now how handy is that???
