U.S. goalkeeper Kasey Keller will leave the German club Borussia Moenchengladbach at the end of the season.
The club said Wednesday it didn't expect the 37-year-old goalkeeper — after a long career in Europe — to want to stay with the relegated club next season in Germany's second division.
"That Keller offered to stay with the Borussia is a surprise," manager Christian Ziege said. "We had to assume that he wasn't available if we were demoted."
But Ziege said Moenchengladbach will stick with plans for a generation change and play 25-year-old Christofer Heimeroth next season.
Keller joined the German club in 2005 and often is ranked among the Bundesliga's top goalkeepers. His previous European stops include Tottenham in the Premier League and Rayo Vallecano in Spain.
